finally...

I can finally talk about it!

It's been ages since I watched it, but I haven't been able to speak about the final episode of the Sopranos because so many people hadn't caught up on RTE.

Well, I thought it was perfect - there's been some outrage in the states, suggesting that it was an unsuitable end to the best TV show in history (aside from The Golden Girls) but I thought it was brill.

More on the radio tomorrow from 12.

Be there from the beginning.

Ray

hi ray binchy here from kilkenny, just watched the last episode and the last few weeks of the show have been brilliant but tonight ending was shit it left too much to the imagination (though you know where it leads if you watched the whole series) id rather have seen tony staning over someone with a smokin gun. the best thing about the ending was the journey song which i down loaded. looking forward to a good debate/arguement on it tomorrow....

hey ray, Sara from Wexford. I thought the end was superb, couldn't have ended any other way. A big blow out would have been too corny. Just goes to show that Tony and his family will never be safe. Perfect!
Love the show and love you!!!

Hey Ray and gang, I've only ever seen the first few episodes of the Sopranos so I have no idea what ye're all on about. I now feel obliged to go and watch the whole bloody series. I'll have to rent or buy them over the weekend and make a start. If people are freaking out this much over the sopranos, just wait until Lost finally finishes. There will have to be helplines set up.

Hi Ray, i couldn't believe it when that Journey song came on at the end of Soprano's last nite. I had a quiet smile to myself and tried to explain to the other half that you got that song back into the charts(he's not a listener...i know what your thinking, and yes, i have considered breaking it off for his lack of interest in the Ray Foley show!!
anyway, thanks for making me smile last night cause i had been upset all day with a sore back!!

We think it ended like that to show that being in the Mafia never ends, Tony was still loking over his shoulder in the diner and he is always going to be suspicious of people.

Great ending - he's dead though!

    Several reasons why.

    1) The cat. Look again at the scene, particularly the shot that shows the wall behind Tony - there's a painting of a tiger on the wall - like the "bad omen" orange cat. Orange is also a colour of death in The Godfather - both Michael and Vito died in the films with oranges.

    2) The guy who goes to the bathroom? Just like the way Michael does his first kill in The Godfather - which TOny once said was favourite scene.

    3) The guy who went into the bathroom is in the credits as "man in members only jacket". The episode where Tony was previously shot is called "Members Only"

Listen up Foley and listen good..Here is the definitive explaination to the Spranoes ending robbed from David Chase(but i am taking full credit for it).. "The ending acts as a metaphor for Tony.S the scenes tension is built up and up to boiling point, the Snappy Camera Angles, Meadows pathetic parking attempt, the Classic 80's power ballad all designed to get ur heart racing. Once this tension is established it allows u the viewer to understand just for a moment what it is like to be Tony Sopranoe" From Cliff Gilligan working in the Marine Institute in Oranmore Galway PS Long live Journey and Top Gun(The highest US grossing film of 1986 Platoon May have one the Oscars but Top Gun won the Peoples Hearts..Please cud u play Danger Zone from the Top Gun soundtrack Excellent 80's Tack

Ray, Ray, Ray, Firstly it was a classic ending. The fact it has caused such a stir and debate means it will always be remembered and it was unique in todays predictable tv shows.
Secondly, you picking that song to go to number one... You clever Fox great foresight.
The Soprano's will live on fo-eva! P.S. I'd say we will get a movie but it won't end there either!

The bit when he is out the back garden raking he looks up at the trees in the same way when he was in the coma that time after being shot. A sadness has come over me know after listing to Rays explanation to the show and realise that he is right about what happened I was happy in my mind that it just ended and that was that. :( Even though Tony was a total F****r i had a soft spot for him. You never see it coming.

Hey Ray ur Debate got me thking... Did Tony get wacked or did we the viwers get Wacked? Now theres a question to ponder up there with the meaning of life....

well ray love ur show, was watchin the sopranos the other night and have came to one conclusion Tony was definitely killed. During the time when tony got into the fistfight with Bobby up at the lakehouse there was a scene when Bobby said "I bet you dont hear anything,Everything just fades to black."Also during the final scene everytime someone enters through the door a bell chimes but when meadow enters there is no chime this is because Tony didn't hear anything and it faded to black. The guy who was at the bar eyeing tony was Nicky Leotardo,Phils Nephew. He had only appeared in one or two earlier episodes. The unwritten rule that you dont whack a guy in front of his family went out the window when Phil was killed which would make more definate that Tony was killed in front of his family.
Personally I think AJ's new friend from the hospital tipped off the other side.Think about it she the only non soprano who knew where they were going

When Tony enters he looks in, then we see the same scene with him sitting down. Look familiar? Look at the background? It's DaVinci's Last Supper! Then we hear Tony telling AJ Remeber the good time, and he also tells the mrs. that he is going to be betrayed by someone (Carlos) This doesn't mean he gets wacked, but, after the Last Supper JC did get arrested!

God, I have all this symbolism- it's like being in English class all over again. Blah blah from Blah's play represents blah blah blah... discuss

Great ending! Even people who never watched the show- were not fans are talking about it- and have strong opinions.

-And if you want a real off the wall explanation- maybe he was already dead - or dreaming...still in coma from juniors gunshot?! so the cut to black wasnt an end as such - just the end of his coma. When we see his face, its him waking up suddenly...
help help the paranoids are after me :-)
